When
he became Music Director and Conductor of OLCS
in 1979, Proinnsías Ó Duinn brought the creative
energy and musicianship that enabled an amateur
choir to acheive a professional standard. The
result is vibrant performances of a varied and
extensive repertoire.
Ó Duinn served as Principal Conductor of the RTE Concert Orchestra from 1978 until 2002 when he was appointed Conductor Laureate. During this period he recorded commercially with his orchestra, the RTE National Symphony Orchestra and the RTE Sinfonietta with repertoire as diverse as the Symphonies of Kinsella to the more popular repertoire of Bill Whelan (Riverdance). During this same period he made several foreign tours with his orchestra in Great Britain, mainland Europe and the United States where he also toured with the Irish Chamber Orchestra.
His repertoire covers the spectrum
from popular music to major symphonies and includes
many national and world premières. Ó
Duinn is also a composer of orchestral and chamber
music and of scores for theatre and television.
